The Good News. And the ‘Bad’ News.
Well, I’ve got good news. And I’ve got ‘bad’ news.
The good news is that most bad marriages can be turned around. Your marriage isn’t necessarily doomed to failure. You can turn it around.
That’s the good news.
The ‘bad’ news is that turning around a bad marriage often requires effort.
It requires time (these things don’t usually happen overnight).
And it requires energy (rebuilding a troubled marriage ain’t for whimps).
It means that you stop doing those things that harm your marriage.
And start doing those things that build your marriage.
Sound’s obvious, right?
It is.
But before we get into the specifics, we need to start at first base. You see, in order to save your marriage, you need to take that crucial first step…a step so foundational, that if you miss it, you might as well kiss your marriage goodbye.
The First Step
What is this first step?
In a word, it’s committment.
You need to commit yourself to putting in the effort to save your marriage.
You need to make a clear decision: is your marriage worth saving?
And if it is worth saving, are you willing to put in the effort to save your marriage?
Those are the two decisions that you need to make, before you go a step further.
So lets think about the first question: is your marriage worth saving?
I’m guessing you probably wouldn’t have come to this website if you didn’t think your marriage is worth saving.
But still, it’s worth thinking about: what is it about your marriage that you want to keep? Why do you want to save your marriage?
Perhaps you remember the good times in your marriage…the intimacy you used to share…the warmth and closeness that you felt when you were with your spouse. The joy that your spouse brought you…and the joy you brought to her…marriage can be such a blessing, can’t it? When marriage works the way it’s meant to, it really is good!
And so, you’re thinking, you want that marriage back.
All well and good.
But the next question is a little bit more challenging: are you willing to put in the time and energy in order to save your marriage?
- Are you willing to be patient with your spouse? To forgive them for the wrong that they’ve done you?
- Are you willing to take the time (sometimes a long time) to rebuild trust in your relationship?
- Are you willing to eat humble pie and ask for forgiveness for the way you’ve hurt them?
- Are you willing to change your behaviour (I know, it doesn’t sound easy…but remember: very few worthwhile things in life are easy!).
Once you’ve taken your first step…
If you can answer ‘yes’ to the abovequestions, then you have good chance of saving your marriage.
There’s lots of great information here at this site that will help you to save your marriage.
To your marriage success!
